Today we defined vocabulary and spelled a new set of spelling words. We are closing in on the end of The Odyssey and the students will read Book 16 as homework.

Today we took a test and the students were to read or finish book 13 from The Odyssey.

Feb. 22, 2010

Today we took Vocabulary 10 quiz. We also had a nice talk about The Odyssey and how it has spawned so many things in pop culture, why it has remained for so long, and how that has happened. The students are reading Book 13 of The Odyssey for homework and completing some exercises to prepare for a test on Wednesday. Wednesday's test will be on adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions.

Today we read The Odyssey book 12 and had to learn to write notes. Also, lots of makeup writing was completed. We will be having a test on adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions next week. Also, there is a vocabulary quiz coming up next class.

Today we took a spelling quiz. We wrote some haikus. We discussed The Odyssey in class. We did some reading and reading was assigned as homework. Students need to make up missed work asap as mid marks are coming on Friday.

Today's Essay Prompt

Educators often discuss whether high school sports have a positive influence on students. Some educators think high school sports do have a positive influence because the lessons learned from athletic competition add to the lessons learned from the classroom. Other educators think high school sports do not have a positive influence because the emphasis on sports often overshadows student achievement in other areas. In your opinion, do high school sports have a positive influence on students?

Today we are working on writing again and students are getting immediate feedback. We took a spelling quiz and the students are to read Book 12 in The Odyssey. Please be sure students are checking with me to get homework if absent and also check the blog as this is what we are doing each day.

Today I read over individual essays. Many of them were quite good! We also handed in a few prepositional practice sheets. Students are to read book 11 of The Odyssey adn study spelling words.

Today the students completed preposition practice sheet and watched a bit of The Odyssey mini series from NBC. Vocabulary and spelling quizzes at the end of the week.

Today we did preposition practice and wrote a full essay. If students didn't finish the essay, it was homework so please check them on this. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Today we tried to write haikus about The Odyssey. The students struggled at first and then we talked about it and they had more success. Students were given points if their spelling and vocabulary was complete. We also practiced identifying prepositions and prepositional phrases. Homework is to finish book 10.

It's February already! Today we started new vocabuarly and new spelling. I introduced prepositions and the kids have reading/writing to do at home in The Odyssey and on their essays about school starting time. The first half of book 10 in The Odyssey is assigned for reading homework.
